      <image:title>Shelby Donald - shelby donald, mpt</image:title>
<image:caption>Shelby earned her Masters in Physical Therapy from CSULB, and her Bachelor’s of Science from San Diego State University. She is also a certified yoga instructor (Functional Yoga for Disease), is certified in LSVT BIG and LOUD (Parkinson’s-specific rehabilitation exercise), and is a “Kick Pink” Practitioner for Breast Cancer Rehabilitation. Shelby specializes in helping older adults age gracefully, especially those with neurological conditions, or who have experienced a stroke or other severe illness. Shelby’s infectious energy and passion for the healing power of fitness permeate her classes and training sessions. A lifetime fan of active adventures, Shelby was inspired at the age of 10 to become a Physical Therapist when she watched her mother rehabilitate from spinal surgery: “I felt it in my bones to pursue a job as a fitness professional, one who could truly help people recover from injury or illness, improve their quality of life, and FEEL GOOD using movement!” After many years working as an in-patient physical therapist and then the owner of her own private PT practice, Shelby joined the Recreation Fitness team in 2020 as a trainer and group fitness instructor. We are fortunate to have her depth of knowledge and experience, and Shelby enjoys the team atmosphere and our collaborative approach to training. Personally, Shelby loves a variety of activities to keep her moving: yoga, pilates, hiking, roller skating, gardening and lots of urban walking. “I do a little something everyday, so I can keep up with my dog and husband on our long adventures in the backcountry! Hiking through the forest, desert or mountains for days, carrying all you need on your back, sleeping under the stars and waking up to a steaming cup of hot coffee… this is what keeps me active Monday-Friday.”</image:caption>

<image:caption>Owner. Emily has been a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) since 2005, and is a Certified PWR!Moves Instructor (Parkinson’s-specific rehabilitation exercise). As a sedentary kid who was finally inspired to get in shape in her adult life, she knows firsthand that it is never too late to try something new, and is dedicated to helping her clients surprise themselves with what they can accomplish. Emily specializes in working with clients who have chronic or neurologic conditions – like Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia, Lupus, and Multiple Sclerosis – to help them manage their symptoms and improve the quality of their lives. Personally, she is an avid lover of running, biking, hiking, yoga, SUP and surfing, and can’t wait to hike the Grand Canyon again in the next few years. Emily was honored to be named the 2015 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year by the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce Women’s Business Council. She is a proud alumnus of the Leadership Long Beach Institute (Class of 2016), and was a 2019 honoree in Mayor Robert Garcia’s Long Beach Business Awards for her business leadership and commitment to the city.</image:caption>

She holds certifications from the NeuroRecovery Network (NRN) in Advance Locomotor Training, Neuromuscular Recovery Scale, and NeuroRTI Locomotor Training. Linnea has extensive experience working with clients with neurological conditions, as well as those recovering from spinal cord injury or stroke, and loves helping clients of ALL abilities live their very best life. Linnea has been a dancer as long as she can remember, starting with Polynesian dancing at the age of 3. She participated in high school volleyball, basketball, track and swim team, and returned to her dance roots in college, dancing at local events and teaching a dance fitness class at CSUF. She performed in the Rose Parade for Kaiser Permanente, and in 2008 danced at the Los Angeles County Fair. Eventually she started practicing hot yoga, fell in love: “It was the most difficult and rewarding experience I have ever had. The heat and the sequence of the positions were so spiritual and empowering.” When she’s not training with clients, Linnea loves to travel, garden, cook, and eat! (If you’ve got a delicious recipe, she’ll take it!) She and her husband enjoy playing golf wherever they travel, and hiking with their one year old daughter, Beatrice. “We love sharing our passion for the outdoors with her, and hope to take her tent camping very soon!”</image:caption>

<image:title>My Story - My own journey to fitness is not a typical one: I was a sedentary kid who was introduced to exercise in my adult life, and it changed the way I saw myself and my ability to face hard things. I used to say “no” a lot — no I don’t run, no I don’t play sports, etc. — and now I say “I’ll try,” because there is little we cannot accomplish if we are willing to keep showing up. I now know firsthand that it is never too late to try something new, and I’m dedicated to helping my clients surprise themselves with what they can accomplish, too.</image:title>

She specializes in working with older adults, and those with neurological conditions like PD and dementia, to age gracefully and live their very best lives. Ann entered the fitness industry in her 50s, after working as a Biology teacher and a Respiratory Therapist. A series of traumatic life events and losses inspired her to focus on her own fitness: “I discovered that, for me, the key to feeling good again was working out in various ways.” She started teaching group fitness classes at her local gym, where she was introduced to clients living with neurological conditions, and she was hooked. Seeing firsthand the profound impact exercise made on their daily lives, made Ann strive to learn more, and she pursued her specialty certifications so she could be the best trainer possible to her inspiring clients.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Sara Adams - sara adams</image:title>
<image:caption>Sara is an alum of the National Personal Training Institute of Costa Mesa, a certified personal trainer through National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and is a Certified PWR!Moves Instructor (Parkinson’s-specific rehabilitation exercise). From a very early age she lived to dance: “To dance was to breathe. The only issue was my body. It never quite fit the mold. I also watched my mother struggle with her weight and I struggled beside her.” It wasn’t until she became a mother herself that Sara discovered her passion for fitness. At 5’3″ she had gained over 40 pounds with her first child, and a year later found herself still carrying half of the pregnancy weight. She knew she needed to workout, but didn’t have the time to invest in a gym with a new baby and full time job. So she got creative and started working out in her living room. Getting started was tough, but eventually she felt herself getting stronger, happier, and with revived energy and better sleep. After the birth of her second child, she decided to pursue her passion of becoming a personal trainer. “I now have the privilege of helping others live longer, happier more fulfilling lives by teaching them how to move and care for their bodies. And for that I am extremely grateful!”</image:caption>
