Yes, but SAFELY. We practice various movements to help build good muscle memory so that if and when a fall takes place in real life, your body will automatically know how to protect you from serious injury.

This class will help you do just that! Practicing how to get up/down off the floor is one of the BEST ways to prevent fall-related injuries — as you build confidence, you move better, decreasing your risk of falling and/or serious injury. Plus, if you do have a fall, you need to know how to get off the floor safely, so you aren’t stranded waiting for help.
Whatever your ability, we’ll meet you where you are, employing a variety of practical strategies for getting off the floor to prepare you for different circumstances you may encounter. You got this!

The padded floor and crash pads at The Jiu Jitsu League are perfect for this class! They allow for freer movement without fear, and for us to practice without the risk of injury.
Let’s face it — when falls happen, we don’t have time to think, so practicing in a safe padded environment built for floor work NOW will help you build the muscle memory you’ll need to minimize serious injury LATER.

Though it may not feel comfortable to kneel on grumpy knees or roll over when your lower back is stiff, these movements are important to practice BEFORE a fall happens, so your body is used to choosing mild discomfort over serious injury. And, our clients find that the more we practice these movements, the better their joints and muscles feel!
Having said that, your instructors each have decades of training experience and can offer modifications to movements as needed to keep you from aggravating any conditions you might have.
